Tigress by the Tail- the Moon Card

By: Teresa D’Amario

A stop at a local pub to celebrate her friend’s raise, proved to be a big mistake for Cassie and her friend Lin, after a stranger offered them a drink and they woke up to find themselves locked in a strange basement, soon to learn that they were to be sacrificed so that Lucifer could regain his earthly thrown. Cassie and Lin were shifters, and though they lived in a human world, their differences to the species kept them from developing relationships with them, until they met Lance. Something stirred inside of Cassie and she suddenly felt an odd attachment to this stranger, and his attraction to Cassie was instant, and from the look in her eyes he knew she was no average girl.

In his attempt to save them from their captors, Lance was taken captive himself, and in that instant, Cassie gave herself up, as well as her friend.

It so happens that Lance had been looking for these… people, and an earlier tarot card reading from his aunt had assured him he’d meet his goal with success, but he hadn’t figured it this way. Lance didn’t lead an ordinary existence either, he and his brother worked for the Government Control for Supernatural Activities, and this was his first undercover operation. It wasn’t going so good, but his concern was with the women.

To spare Lance, Cassie agreed to fight Lin to the death, though this wasn’t her true intention, however, the captors impatience forced Lin into Cassie’s blade. Lin’s only hope for survival was to shift, but she refused. This was when Cassie revealed her true self. The moment passed quickly, and the evil ones were dead, but now she had to face Lance. The rule was that no human was allowed to witness the change, which posed a dilemma for Cassie. She didn’t want to kill him, besides; she needed his help to save her friend.

Despite the power of her beast, Cassie had never killed before that night, and the battle had left her emotionally overwhelmed with grief, and in Lance’s attempt to comfort her, she learned that not all humans were as cold hearted as she’d been led to believe.

Cassie cautiously had Lance drive them home, and after she tended to her friend, Cassie and Lance shared moments of irrefutable passion, until her father’s arrival interrupted them. Lin already knew that the two were meant to be, but it wasn’t until her father’s questioning that Cassie learned the truth. She and Lance, as different as they were, were destined to be together.

Truthfully, I was pleasantly surprised with this read. Everything fit into place. The reader gets a good glance into the real thoughts of these shifters, and the arising passion of true love. Excellent read!
