After having trouble finding the right man, Madelyn, at the suggestion of her judgmental friend, Gwen, and with a bit of apprehension, decides to auction her deprived soul through an on-line bidding site, believing it would only bring a few laughs, but Madelyn finds more than she’s looking for.
He’d been watching her, stalking her… seeming to study the merchandise before his final bid. Then the bidding came to an end, and the highest bidder won with a bid of six hundred and sixty six dollars. Her meeting with the winning bidder is filled with apprehension, but there’s something eerie about this powerfully captivating man she’d seen before. She believes he’s evil. The meetings are as strange as the man himself. Lasting only a few minutes before he hands her a business card, jotting down another time and destination to meet him, signing it with a simple letter, S. (She believes signifies Satan.)He sends her to places where something odd always seems to happen, where she would intervene in a pending disaster. Then came the night of her friend’s comedy performance, another place he sends her to. Madelyn hastens a cab afterwards, but the driver is no mere man, and Madelyn is confronted with the ‘other’ bidder, who promises to fulfill her dreams if she only signs the contract. Her mind fills with pleasing visions of her artful creations, and her recognition of fame, but she must sign… Seeming to sense the evil presence of her captor, she refuses, finding herself standing in the street in front of her home; the cab and its driver, now gone. She has passed another test but the battle is not over. Madelyn seeks love in her empty life, but what she gets is something totally unexpected.
What I liked most about this book is that it has an unpredictable ending, making everything fall into place. This is a well orchestrated read. Job well done!
