Elizabeth, former Police Detective Toby Jenkins attorney ex-wife has a problem. She has taken on a case for the defense of a police officer accused of killing his estranged wife, a case that appears to be a ‘slam dunk’ for the prosecution. She asks Toby to help prove Robert Weborg’s innocence.

Toby, TJ, wants no part of working for the defense, any defense. As far as he is concerned, defense attorneys rank just a little below dirt. In fact his current situation as a former police detective is a direct result of blowing up on the witness stand and telling off a defense attorney. But, after a time and with the encouragement of his soon to be adopted son, Billy, he relinquishes and agrees to help, and, even accepts the license to be the lowest of the low, a private detective.

At first, after reviewing the case file, he too believes the officer is guilty. Slowly as his investigation widens, things began to change, small things that don’t exactly add up. Hindered by the lack of cooperation from the lead detective and his former boss, who both hate him, TJ decides to keep his word to Elizabeth and do his best. When a secret past of Tina Weborg comes to light, TJ attempts to put all the pieces together. He has to because, what if Robert Weborg is innocent after all?

Author Kevin Hughes has done it again! Excellent dialog, superb plotting and one incredible story all rolled up in one very good book. Hughes has put together a group of characters, good guys and bad, that will peak the interest of any lover of high-quality detective fiction. All that, and a good surprise ending as well. “Dogging Truth” is just that, good detective fiction. Actually it’s more than good detective fiction; it’s great and deserves hearty ‘well done’.
