The image of perfect love filled Catherine’s head as she tried to concentrate on her work, but so did her trepidations about where this romance would go. She had a feeling that Matthew, her love of two years, was going to ask her that ultimate question. ‘Would she marry him?’ She loved Matthew, he was the kind of man any woman would want, but she also loved her independence. It was a dilemma she hoped her inner voice would direct her with, but that voice was silent.
After the tragic, untimely death of her mother and grandmother, Catherine had been raised by her grandfather, and a close friend named, Evangeline. She’d planned a visit to New Orleans to see him, but it wasn’t without concern. Along with the arrival of his birthday gift, Alan Fairfield had added a disturbing note. For many years, Alan had kept a troubling secret, which he felt he now needed to share with his granddaughter.
Many years ago, during his days of war, Alan was confronted by the Archangel, Michael. For the battle he fought was against more than man. Now Alan had a higher calling; he was to protect the ‘Spear of Longinus,’ from the demon, Sammael, who was still seeking the important artifact, but Alan was getting on in years, and now it was time for the chore to be passed down. Catherine would now inherit the valuable relic, and it would be her job to keep it safe from the hands of evil, but he never had the chance to tell her, Sammael saw to that.
Sammael however, was on to the plot, and set his intentions on Catherine, but there were obstacles. Pretending to be the grandson of Alan’s friend Joe, it seemed only natural that he’d show up to pay his respects at Alan’s wake, but Evangeline could sense the evil in the man, and then there was Matthew. Sammael knew the way to get to Matthew was through the pretense of success, and planned a meeting with him, but something unexplained happened during that meeting, and Matthew didn’t come home the same man. He was abrupt and resentful, and Catherine couldn’t understand his misplaced hostility. Evangeline also sensed the difference in him, but she wouldn’t have the chance to explain her fears to Catherine, as Sammael confronted first, ending her time on earth.
Catherine returned home to find her place ramshackle, and it was obvious that someone was looking for something of importance, but worse was the following night, when she was attacked by a masked man who demanded to know the whereabouts of something. What, she still had no clue, and though Matthew at first seemed concerned, but he quickly turned on her when he thought she was keeping something from him, leaving her alone on the street. This was when Catherine met Eve, the psychic. Eve gave her a tarot reading, mixed with both good and bad news, leaving Catherine even more confused.
All will be revealed in the end, but the story between good and evil continues.
This was a well orchestrated story, adequately bringing the events of the past and present together. This is a must read for those who enjoy books that go beyond the normal realm. It’s a truly enjoyable read. I loved it!
