AUTHOR:  Rachel Hale

I’m not altogether sure how to critique this obviously “Born Again Christian” story but it was like watching an old 50s show where phrases like, “Golly gee! Oh my gosh! Gee willikers, gang…” come out. The story begins with a nice girl going with her sister to her grandparents’ house because she’s getting married.  The groom-to-be is far from being who he’s supposed to be and that throws a monkey wrench into everything.  Bride-to-be’s mother is portrayed to be the typical comedy show parent that never finds the groom to be worthy of her precious daughter. She’s quite the Bostonian snob who wishes Diana (the bride) would have chosen the mother’s choice of a cad named Victor instead. The real twist comes when Diana gets kidnapped and everything comes unraveled. The groom, Joey Rancher, turns out to be somebody entirely different from the man Diana fell in love with. They question whether they should still marry or call it off, once Diana is rescued, that is. This story is very old fashioned and like something to come out of the 1950’s or 1960’s what with dialogue discussing the ‘monthly friend’ appearing on the wedding night like it was written for an episode of Father Knows Best. What this really could be called is Nancy Drew Meets One Of The Hardy Boys.  All in all, this is strictly a Born Again Christian book for those who cannot take stories filled with vulgarity and profane situations.  It is a tale, a sweet tale, of how to keep the faith when all the odds seem against you. I applaud Ms. Hale’s obvious testimony of her ever-abiding faith in the Lord. If you’re looking for hardcore cops and robbers shoot ‘em up, you have that but a very G-rated version of it.

Did I like this book? To be honest, it was just ok for me. I found it to be too cornball for my taste. But I’m certain there are readers out there for this genre. It’s not to say that I’m not a believer because I certainly am. I’m simply stating this kind of book is not for me.  Great effort!
