Kevin Hughes

Police Detective Toby Jenkins is in trouble. After a lapse of judgment during a trial, TJ is regulated to a dead end desk job and constantly harassed by his brown nosing boss. One of his tasks is to help out with child services cases.

Billy Kilgrew is a runaway. After losing his mother to cancer, Billy is left in the care of his evil, no account step father and suffers unimaginable physical and mental abuse. Finally he strikes out but along the way he suffers even more and lands in the custody of the Madison Child Services.

TJ and Billy's lives are soon to intersect. Child Services representatives ask TJ to become temporary foster parent for Billy. Billy moves in and after a short time confesses all to TJ. With due process, Billy’s stepfather learns all about the situation and wants Billy back. TJ isn’t about to let that happen. With the help of his ex-wife, TJ sets out to do something about it realizing that he has become fonder of the young man than he thought he possibly could.

What can I say, other than this book is excellent! Well plotted with outstanding characterization and great dialog. Although slightly predictable, Casualty Crossing is some of the best detective fiction that I’ve read in quite some time. Author Kevin Hughes has a real winner here. Well done!
