Don’t Turn the Lights on a Fictional Take of Urban Legends, compiled of many different stories and authors. This wonderful book is full of Stories we've heard of but places you in new settings, giving you a new outlook on each story.

 

  “Prom Night” by John Marfink, leaves you astounded at a new fresh look into this classic tale. Prom Night is about a high school girl who is murdered on prom night by an envious x-boyfriend, who slip-ups and mistakes her for somebody else.

   “Beauty” by Thom Gabaldon, is about a woman with a bouffant hairdo who faces casualty do to an unexplained sickness and dies, doctors conclude the cause of the fatality was bites from the spiders that had taken up dwelling in the woman’s hair. 

 

   “Liver & Onions” by Steven Manchester, is a story that tells about people being accidentally obscured, dissected, and embalmed while still alive. Samantha gets caught up in the middle of this hair rising tale.

 

  “The Castletons” by Marlena Maria, It’s Halloween and many young children are ready to go trick or treating. When they head out for their great holiday adventure, they begin to mysteriously disappear. It’s a small town, where nobody would suspect a sweet old couple, but come to find out there is more to them than meets the eye. The people of the town uncover a secret about the older couple  living in a cottage down the street, and the truth will chill your bones.

  “The Truth about the Guy in the Car” by Todd Seaward, A woman stops at a ramshackle filling station in the heart of nowhere. The gas station employee was acting bizarre and creepy. He entices her into the headquarters, only to admit he has seen a man hiding in the rear seat of her car. The man turns out to be a fugitive serial killer in hunt of his next prey. 

  “Who Remembers Molly” by Richard S. Crawford, is about a man who gives a hitchhiker a ride. He turns to bid his typical traveler goodbye and learns that she has vanished from the car. He later gains knowledge his mysterious passenger. He finds out that she had died several years earlier. This story is excellent.

  “Bleeding Fingers” by Stephen C. Hallin; this story is about several small children who were killed by a train. Now mysteriously anyone that sits on the train track will be pushed across it by the protective children that linger in the same spot they where killed. This one could be said as true, because I have experienced this story; so bizarre.

  “Quarry” by Hannah Emery; A young couple decide to go make-out, but to their surprise their plans was quickly changed. When they hear a report on the radio about an escaped killer with a hook for a hand; they come to realize that he’s in their neck of the woods. The young girl pleas to be taken home, but when her boyfriend gets her there they find a bloody hook hanging from the car door.

  

  “That Long, Black Train” by J. M. Heluk; is about a Black Subway Train with a peculiar passenger. The other rider on the train comes to find out that the peculiar passenger with unrelenting stares, is really a dead person.

  “Cutting Off My Finger” by Robert John Mestre; is about a man who receives a hand transplant. Come to find out the hand come from a deceased criminal. The man begins to experience weird side affects from the donated hand. He begins to commit all kinds of acts that he can not be in charge of. 

  “Tom Skinner” by Paul Nemeth: This story is about a man who is murdered because of his color. He then looks for justice, so he begins to haunt the people who took his life from him. This is very good.

  “21 Doors” by John L. French: is about some people who decide to find out if chanting bloody Mary thirteen times in front of a candle light mirror, really summons a girl who was murdered. The young Mary was murdered on her prom night, and waits to be summoned so she can get her vengeance.

 

  “The 13 Steps to Hell in Maltby Cemetery” by Jason Andrew; the real Maltby Cemetery is found in Washington State. The Legend is that there are 13 steps that will lead you to the gates of Hell. Some people say that the steps are found inside of a crypt. Some say that the word ‘step,’ is a metaphor for the terraces which lead to the cemetery. The cemetery itself was built upon a top of a hill, which holds great mystery. Only a few who are unlucky enough to find the truth, will be lead to a place in which they wish they’d never traveled. This story is full of suspense and is very unique from the original story. 

 

  “Without Power” by Gregory Miller: This fabulous story is about a young girl who thinks she can hear noises under her bed. She thinks the noises are from her sleeping pet dog, which is under her bed, but she comes to find out that it’s really is a murder who has escaped from prison. This story is full of thrill and heart racing excitement.

  “Good Mourning” by Steven Manchester, Is about A house that is centered on supernatural occurrences.This house is said to be covered in ghost, monsters and poltergeist, maybe even demons. They haunt the physical world after a tragic event that occurred on the property a long time ago. The hauntings happen because of murder, or accidental death, and some are there because of suicide. The story filled with ghost and mysterious happenings, leave several people lost for words, their unbelief is changed to belief in this unmistakable profound story. 

 “Sacred Ground” by Rob Rosen; a group of young people, all of them close friends, decide to buy a cabin. The cabin is unique in many ways, so many strange things happen there. They have been warned by the locals in that town to leave, but they ignore them and stay. They come to find out that the cabin has been built on an old Indian burial ground. The warnings are put aside and they stay anyway. The old Indian Ghost becomes vengeful and haunts the group of friends, this story is full of great thrills. I have to say that this one is my favorite out of them all, maybe it has something to do with my own heritage, but I thought it was truly an excellent piece to this book.  

  “The Pond” by Martin Soderstrom; this is an old story about the Loch Ness monster. This amazing legend has been lingering since the 1930’s and more than 4,000 people have told this tale of tales. The Nessie has been reported as early as the 6th century. This story is filled with a great imaginative twist that will leave you wanting more. I have always loved this story and this author really takes this turn of events to a new height. 

  “Creamy White Flesh” by Karen S. Petrov; a business explorer accepts a drink from a gorgeous woman, then he follows her to her room. Waking the next day in the bathtub shocked and confused because he is submerged in ice. A mysterious note was taped to the wall. The note tells him to call 911. When he gets to the hospital, the medics find that one of his kidneys is missing. Someone removed it. This story will leave you in “Wow”, it is wonderful.

  “The Price of a Cookie” by Jeff Ryan; One day a woman bought a cookie at Neiman Marcus. She was told that if she wanted the recipe that it would cost her $250. So the woman pulled out her credit card. She then emailed the recipe so no one else would ever have to pay for it. The price of the cookie was more than she had bargained for. This tale is extremely wild and fascinating.

 

  “Memory One” by Kevin M. Mcgreer; a Ghost/ Monster with no certain appearance, which many call him the boogeyman, normally hides underneath one’s bed and inside a closet. He lurks until he can find a sleeper to attack, the characters in this story are dealt a hand that makes the hair stand up on the back of your neck, leading you down a twisting paranormal tale that will have your spine tingling for hours on end, even after the story has been read. They come to find out that this monster boogeyman has something to do with a serial killer named Albert Fish.

 

  “And- Dirt” by David Ireland; several young people find out that raining frogs is more than just a story of mystery. Stories about objects pouring from the sky have been around for centuries, but these people find out that this magical phenomenon has a purpose after all. After this discovery you will be in Awe for days. 

   Each of these authors wrote a wonderful classic tale of horror, with such perfect dialog and plot settings, unique in every way. I give this book 5 stars for an excellently compiled book full of long lasting thrillers that will keep you on the edge of your seat and keep the pages turning, Kudos to Stone Garden Publishing on an outstanding work of art for the horror lovers around the world; Excellent, Well Done.
